Starting my own business diaries - PT 1

Hello and welcome!

This is sort of a re-introduction post. I have been working on Daughter of Sarcasm for a couple months now since introducing you guys to the brand and let me tell you there has been a massive growth. A growth in the passion for DOS from myself personally which quite honestly has shocked the system. I was having a think about what i wanted to see if I was in your guy’s shoes and personally, I would love to watch a business grow from its roots and sort of learn from other people’s mistakes. With this, I thought about creating the 'Starting a business diaries' with someone who has absolutely no experience with running any business. So, let’s learn and grow together with this series! 

I created the idea of Daughter of Sarcasm (DOS), and I am currently trying to make this idea into reality. 

When I started working on Daughter of Sarcasm, I didn’t realise how much I would fall in love with the brand. I am somebody who comes up with crazy ideas all day every day and sometimes the fire for the idea blows out. So, my retaining passion for Daughter of Sarcasm is a new and exciting adventure for me. 

The concept behind DOS is to be that the brand, name and community where people find the need for a gift, decoration and ‘pick me up’ and DOS is the place they think off. As someone myself who struggles to find gifts for people, whether that be for friends, family or colleagues, I find that the market is short of unique and carefully designed products that make you think of someone when looking at them. My excitement for online shopping shortly loses its flame when I’m looking at the same things over and over again. 

Saying this, I believe that there is a gap in the gift market for unique designs that hold the three main selling points being,

1. Funny

2. Memorable 

3. Beautifully designed.

These are the three points that DOS will be hitting with every design created and published.  I want to create a community and brand that gives consumers just like me the chance to find the perfect gifts, cards, home decorations and wall art. Every design is created with the aim to generate a positive emotion to anyone who views it. 

Some future plans that I want Daughter of Sarcasm to become is a podcast for people to tune in and listen for 30 minutes or so to forget whatever troubles are worrying them and to make people smile and laugh. Listeners can have a chance to tell others their hilarious stories, their WTF stories or just to have a place where they can be heard. This is currently in the works...

As it has been well over a month since my first post there has been a lot of excitement, I got my very first orders and the reviews back are extremely positive. Which just fills me with such joy but also swallowed me with anxiety, thoughts that the products weren't going to be receive well, problems with postage, people might disagree with pricing all these thoughts running a marathon in my head. None of which happened but I didn’t realise how over whelming people actually buying your products would feel. But overall, the feeling is amazing knowing someone out there is getting an amazing gift and having a good laugh!

I managed to order in samples of some of my collections in August which meant I could get a better look and feel for the products I have designed and let me tell you they look amazing! Not to blow my own trumpet or anything… Although as a perfectionist I really struggle to not be hyper-critical of my designs ever-wise you guys would have nothing to buy! The excitement of knowing how great they look and how much you guys are going to love these is just phenomenal.

One bit of business advice a beloved friend gave to me about starting a business was to always stay consistent. Make sure to stay consistent and always have a laugh while doing so!
